Paws of War Helps Soldier Rescue Puppy from Middle East

Paws of War

Paws of War is stepping up once again—this time to help U.S. Army First Sergeant Jorge Ríos bring home a tiny, freckle-nosed pup he found abandoned in the desert during his deployment in the Middle East.

The Texas-based soldier came across the puppy after she was left behind by a pack of bigger dogs, too weak to keep up. According to a statement from Paws of War, the frightened little pup instantly bonded with Ríos.

He named her Beuhring, after Camp Beuhring in Kuwait, where their story began.

“Beuhring ran straight up to me,” Ríos recalled. “The first thing I noticed were the cute freckles on her nose—then how small she was. I knew right away she wouldn’t make it on her own. I gave her water and brought her to base. As she got healthier, our connection deepened. Now, if I leave her side, she cries until I return.”

As Ríos prepares to return home, he’s facing the heartbreaking reality that Beuhring wouldn’t survive without him. The area is far too dangerous for a young dog like her, and the idea of leaving her behind is unbearable.

“I had no idea she would come to mean so much to me,” he said. “She’s like family now. I can’t stand the thought of her being left alone in such a harsh place.”

Paws of War Calls for Support in Heroic Rescue

Paws of War is working tirelessly to make Beuhring’s journey to America a reality. But the rescue organization notes that missions like this one are complex and costly.

“We’re committed to helping this soldier and his pup, but we can’t do it without support,” said Robert Misseri, co-founder of the nonprofit. “These rescues take time, coordination, and financial backing from the community.”

The organization is known for supporting military personnel and first responders, offering everything from pet rescues to training service dogs.

With a bit of help, Beuhring could soon be starting her new life in Texas, safe and sound by the side of the soldier who saved her.
