Milo Manheim, the 24-year-old actor currently starring in Little Shop of Horrors at New York’s Westside Theatre, reflects on a childhood memory that introduced him to his mom Camryn’s role in the beloved 1997 film Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion. The experience was a wake-up call for young Milo when a fan approached his mom while they were walking through the streets of New York and shouted, “F— off, Toby!”

Milo had no idea what the fan was referring to, which left him confused and upset. “I was just a kid, about 6 or 7, and I didn’t understand why someone would say that to my mom,” Milo recalls. Camryn, ever the supportive parent, reassured him and decided to introduce Milo to the iconic movie. “Milo, I’m about to show you the coolest film ever,” she told him before they sat down to watch Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion that night.

How Milo Manheim Came to Appreciate His Mom’s Iconic Role
Since then, Milo Manheim has developed a fondness for the film, especially given its cult status. “It became a part of my childhood,” he says, grateful to understand the reference. He even had the chance to see a piece of Romy and Michele history firsthand—Camryn kept the fake braces she wore in the movie in a box of trinkets. “They were clean, not gross,” he laughs, adding that both he and his mom have sentimental keepsakes from their acting careers.
While performing on stage in Little Shop of Horrors, Milo experienced a deeply emotional moment when Camryn attended the show for the first time since he was a child. It was the first time he truly felt she saw him as a capable performer, not just her son. “We had a healing conversation after the show, and it was incredibly validating,” Milo says, appreciating the mutual pride they share.
