Ingredients for this Steak Sandwich Recipe:

  • 2 tablespoons butter, divided
  • ¼ medium onion, sliced
  • 4 large fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • ¼ green bell pepper, sliced into long strips
  • 1 (1/2 pound) well-marbled beef steak (any type), sliced as thinly as possible
  • 3 tablespoons chopped pickled hot peppers
  • 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 slices sharp Cheddar cheese
  • ⅓ French baguette, cut in half lengthwise

Directions:

  1. Sauté Vegetables:
    In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onion, mushrooms, and bell pepper. Sauté for 4-5 minutes, until the vegetables soften and start to brown. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  2. Cook Steak:
    In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter. Once melted, add the thinly sliced steak. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the steak is browned but still tender.
  3. Add Heat:
    Stir in the chopped pickled hot peppers and hot pepper sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to allow the flavors to combine.
  4. Assemble Sandwich:
    Lay the sliced Cheddar cheese over the steak and let it melt. While the cheese melts, toast the baguette halves in a separate pan or under the broiler for 1-2 minutes until lightly crispy.

    Place the sautéed vegetables and steak with melted cheese onto the bottom half of the baguette. Top with the other half of the baguette and serve immediately.
