Joey Lawrence John Candy Fishing Trip & 90s Memories

Joey Lawrence John Candy Fishing Trip

Joey Lawrence recently reflected on one of the most unforgettable moments from his childhood — the Joey Lawrence John Candy fishing trip that marked his very first time fishing. Speaking alongside his brothers Matthew and Andrew “Andy” Lawrence during a panel at 90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut, Joey, now 48, was asked about the wildest thing he’s experienced on a movie set during his long-running career.

That’s when he opened up about an extraordinary moment from his time working on the 1985 comedy Summer Rental.

“I caught a massive flounder in St. Petersburg, Florida, with Carl Reiner — a legendary director I didn’t even realize was a big deal at the time,” Joey recalled. “I was doing Summer Rental with John Candy, and the fish was so big, the chef ended up cooking it for lunch — and John Candy ate it!”

He added with a smile, “John Candy was the best.” Joey played Candy’s son in the film, making the Joey Lawrence John Candy fishing trip a special memory tied both to work and personal growth.

Following Joey’s touching story, his brothers chimed in with their own Hollywood memories. Andy, 37, shared a wild moment from when he worked with Tom Arnold in the ‘90s.

“I was about 7, and Tom tossed me in the back of his car with Arnold Schwarzenegger. They handed me a lit cigar and thought it was hilarious,” Andy laughed. “We were in a Rolls-Royce. It was wild.”

Matthew, now 45, reflected on a more awkward but memorable experience — his first on-screen kiss.

“It was my very first kiss, and it was totally unexpected,” he said. “She kissed me hard — I was shocked, and she was too. Super awkward but unforgettable.”

The trio also talked about their favorite projects and moments they admired from each other’s careers. Joey expressed admiration for Matthew’s opportunity to work with the late Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire.

“I would’ve loved to act with Robin,” Joey said. “Matt’s stories and memories from that time are just incredible.”

They also updated fans on their upcoming comedy series Lawrence House, which has finished filming and is currently in post-production. Joey explained, “It’s a big project backed by a major team, but it moves at a slow pace. We’re in the editing phase now, and we’re excited.”

From a nostalgic Joey Lawrence John Candy fishing trip to lighting up cigars with Hollywood icons, the Lawrence brothers continue to charm fans with their behind-the-scenes tales.
