Kentucky teens rescue driver in a heart-pounding moment that turned a quiet fishing trip into a heroic life-saving mission.
Three teenagers from Louisville — Kenay Valdes, Abraham Cruz, and Jacob Cruz — originally set out for a casual fishing trip on Monday, April 21. Their initial plan was to head to Indiana, but partway through their drive, they decided to change course and visit Greenwood Boat Ramp, a popular local spot.
Upon arrival, they noticed a commotion by the riverbank. A car was partially submerged in the Ohio River, and a crowd had formed around the scene. Without hesitation, Abraham and Kenay dove into the water to assist the driver while Jacob remained on shore to help haul the vehicle out with a rope. “I just wanted to help,” Jacob told reporters.

LMPD Chief Paul Humphrey praised their bravery: “The quick and courageous actions of these young men are nothing short of heroic. Their selflessness to save a stranger is an extraordinary example of bravery.”
