It’s a dog-help-puppy world out there—thanks to heroes like Olivia.
This compassionate canine isn’t new to saving lives. Olivia is a registered therapy dog at DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital in Portland, Oregon, where she offers comfort and support to both humans and animals during difficult times.
Earlier this year, Olivia took her kindness to a whole new level when she stepped in to help a 5-month-old pup named Jaxon. The little dog was rushed to DoveLewis with symptoms of rodenticide poisoning—he was weak, bleeding abnormally, and diagnosed with coagulopathy, a serious condition where blood doesn’t clot correctly.
As Jaxon’s condition rapidly declined, veterinarians needed to act fast. The immediate solution? A dog blood donation. Fortunately, Olivia was not only a match but ready to help. Calmly and bravely, she underwent an emergency blood draw—giving Jaxon the lifesaving transfusion he so desperately needed.

Dog Blood Donation Programs Save Lives
Once Olivia’s blood was delivered, Jaxon’s vitals began to stabilize. His anemia improved, and soon, he started regaining his strength. According to DoveLewis, Olivia’s contribution was essential to his recovery.
“Blood donations from healthy dogs like Olivia truly make a difference,” said her owner, Grace Epstein. Olivia is no stranger to helping others—this marked her sixteenth time donating to the DoveLewis Blood Bank.
Dog blood donation is an ongoing need in veterinary hospitals. As Kelsey Reinauer, DoveLewis’ blood bank director, put it: “Every donation matters, but during emergencies like Jaxon’s, it can mean the difference between life and death.”
Olivia’s story is a reminder of how our furry friends can become silent heroes—offering not just love and comfort, but even the gift of life.
