Canada goose aggression has taken a surprising turn at a furniture store in Medina, Ohio. Employees of an Ashley Furniture location have found themselves on the receiving end of a protective male goose’s fierce behavior. The wild bird has been guarding his mate’s nest near the store, and as a result, customers trying to enter or exit the business are met with aggressive displays of territorial defense.
Canada goose aggression is not uncommon during nesting season, but this particular goose’s bold approach has created tension. Nicole Reis, an employee of the store, shared a video showing the goose flapping his wings high and pecking at the glass doors, seemingly warning customers of the potential danger. The bird even went so far as to chase away a customer and their dog, with the pup getting startled by the aggressive display.

Canada Goose Aggression: How Employees Responded
In response to the intense situation, store employees armed themselves with a shovel, stepping outside to confront the goose and instruct it to “stop being mean to people.” Despite the intervention, the goose continued to hiss in defiance. Ultimately, the store had no choice but to take a humorous approach, posting a new sign that read, “Please use other door. Pardon our goose,” to prevent further interactions with the bird.
What to Know About Canada Goose Aggression
While it may seem odd, this kind of behavior is not unusual for male geese. During nesting season, they can become highly territorial and protective of their mates and offspring. This particular incident highlights the risks that can arise when wildlife and human spaces overlap. Despite the goose’s somewhat menacing nature, Reis has no hard feelings and even mentions that she’s been able to befriend the bird, as he doesn’t harass her during her shifts.
