A dog rescued from a storm drain in West Springfield, Massachusetts, is making headlines after being found in the most unexpected of places. Firefighters who responded to a vehicle fire on Interstate 91 made a surprise discovery when they found the lost pup stuck in a storm drain near the scene. The fire had already caused gasoline to spill onto the road, but once the flames were out, the team began diverting the fuel from the storm drains when they heard a faint cry for help. Upon investigation, they found the black-and-white dog, later identified as Ally, trapped in the drain.

The heroic efforts of the firefighters didn’t stop at extinguishing the fire. As the team worked to prevent the gasoline from reaching the storm drains, firefighter Justin Burchell noticed the dog’s cries. After following the sounds, he discovered Ally, who had been stuck there for an unknown amount of time. The crew quickly rescued her and brought her to the Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center for a check-up.

To everyone’s relief, Ally was microchipped, and the animal shelter was able to contact her owners. The joyful reunion came after 34 long days of searching. Ally had been missing from her home for more than a month, and her family had no idea she had been stuck in a storm drain. Thanks to the firefighters’ dedication and quick thinking, Ally was safely returned to her family, making her rescue a truly miraculous event.
