Believe it or not, Dove Cameron first gig involved none other than Ryan Gosling and his eerie music group Dead Man’s Bones. During a new chat on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, the “Too Much” singer revealed her first-ever paid performance was as part of a ghostly children’s choir supporting Gosling and bandmate Zach Shields.
“Funny enough, the first real job I ever had was for Ryan Gosling’s Halloween band,” said Cameron, now 29. “And it was absolutely wild. The man can seriously do everything.”
The now-retired project, Dead Man’s Bones, released a single self-titled album in 2009 filled with haunting tracks like “In the Room Where You Sleep” and “Lose Your Soul.” Cameron remembers the music fondly. “It’s actually really good—super experimental. I still listen to it,” she shared.

How Dove Cameron First Gig Sparked a Career
At the time of Dove Cameron first gig, she was just a young girl growing up on Bainbridge Island in Washington. Although she’d acted in some local theater, this spooky show was her first real paid gig—earning her around $120, she joked.
What made it even more unusual? The show took place at an adults-only underground club. “They were casting kids locally on tour, and I got brought in,” Cameron explained.
From there, her career took off. She became a household name with Disney’s Liv and Maddie, a role that won her an Emmy. That success led to big projects like Descendants, Schmigadoon! on Apple TV+, and a growing music career.
“My parents weren’t thrilled about Hollywood,” she admitted. “But I told them I was doing this with or without their support. Luckily, they came around.”
