Jamal Roberts American Idol Winner: A Journey of Determination

Despite past Idol setbacks, Jamal came into Season 23 with valuable experience, having previously competed on BET’s gospel competition Sunday Best. He made it to the Top 20 in 2019, then returned at 22 to finish in the Top 3, demonstrating his persistence. His single “He’s Preparing Me” followed that season.

Jamal credits his grandparents for nurturing his vocal talents, and before Idol, he worked as a physical education teacher at Crestwood Elementary School in Meridian. His heartfelt homecoming was featured in Sunday’s episode, with one student lovingly declaring, “He’s better than Usher, better than Mariah Carey, better than everybody.”

Though comparisons to Usher or Mariah Carey may be subjective, fans unanimously agree that Jamal Roberts American Idol Winner earned his spot as Season 23’s best performer.
