By May 2023, Murphy’s fur started showing more noticeable light patches, and by April 2024, the transformation was in full swing, leaving him nearly blonde.
What Causes Labradoodle Color Change?
According to Dr. Cassidy Stranzl, a veterinarian at Dakota Veterinary Center, Murphy’s changing fur color is the result of vitiligo, an autoimmune condition where the body attacks its own pigment-producing cells. While vitiligo is rare, it’s seen more often in breeds like German Shepherds, Dobermans, and Rottweilers. Dr. Stranzl assures that this condition is purely cosmetic, and there’s no reason for concern as it doesn’t impact Murphy’s health. “Vitiligo just changes the color of the dog’s skin and fur,” says Dr. Stranzl. “It doesn’t affect their overall well-being.”
The Growing Fascination with Labradoodle Color Change
For Sarah and her family, Murphy’s transformation is nothing short of fascinating. “We often look back at photos of him as a puppy and can’t believe how much he’s changed,” Sarah says. Their friends and family have also been amazed by the transformation, with some commenting that he looks “more blonde” every time they see him. Even the TikTok videos Sarah posted received shocked reactions, as viewers couldn’t believe the same dog could look so different from one video to the next.
