Mac Sinise death shook the world when the beloved son of Hollywood star Gary Sinise passed away last year at just 33 years old from a rare form of cancer.
In the same year that Mac and his mother Moira were both diagnosed with cancer, the legendary actor paused his career to focus entirely on his family. Shortly after Moira’s stage-three breast cancer diagnosis in 2019, Mac received the devastating news that he had chordoma—a rare and aggressive bone cancer affecting fewer than 300 people annually in the U.S.
Gary Sinise described the tumor as “like a monster grabbing my son’s spine.” Despite surgery to remove the tumor, Mac was one of the unlucky few whose cancer returned. His condition worsened despite treatments, and he spent much of 2020 hospitalized.

On January 5, 2024, surrounded by loved ones, Mac lost his courageous battle. “He wanted to stay, but I know he found peace,” Sinise shared. The family laid him to rest on January 23. “Like any family facing such a loss, we are devastated and doing our best to cope,” Gary said. “I’m incredibly proud and blessed to be his dad.”
