Marion County barn fire

In the early hours of Tuesday, April 8, a Marion County barn fire devastated Roberts Quarter Horses, claiming the lives of 21 horses. A security guard discovered the blaze around 4 a.m. and immediately alerted emergency services. By the time first responders arrived minutes later, the barn’s roof had already caved in, leaving no chance of rescue for the horses inside.

Tragically, all 21 horses perished in the fire. Among them were beloved animals named Reba, Cadillac, Drama, Spot, and Jolene, according to owner Roby Roberts. Thankfully, no people were injured in the incident, and fire crews were able to contain the flames within about an hour.

The facility is privately owned by the Roberts Family, who also owns the World Equestrian Center—the largest horse complex in the United States. While the World Equestrian Center is not affiliated with the affected property, it extended heartfelt condolences to everyone impacted by the tragedy.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the Marion County barn fire. Although no official cause has been announced, Roberts suspects a malfunctioning fan or golf cart may have accidentally sparked the blaze. The State Fire Marshal’s office continues to look into the incident.
