Michael B. Jordan Sinners Set Gets Sticky and Bloody

Michael B. Jordan Sinners

Michael B. Jordan Sinners might’ve turned into a sticky situation — literally — during the filming of the new vampire thriller.

The 38-year-old actor reunites once again with his longtime creative partner, writer-director Ryan Coogler, for the chilling film, set in 1930s Mississippi. Jordan takes on double duty, playing twin brothers named Smoke and Stack, in a haunting story soaked in blood, suspense, and southern gothic energy.

Bringing the horror to life meant an overload of fake blood — something Jordan wasn’t totally thrilled about. Coogler, also 38, shared that after a few weeks into production, he got pulled into a conversation about Jordan’s not-so-secret distaste for all the gooey gore.

“I was cool with the fangs — those were dope. But the blood? That was a different story. It got uncomfortable, real messy,” Jordan admitted with a laugh. Coogler chimed in, “I got called into a meeting by my producer and my wife, Zinzi, and they said, ‘We need to talk about Mike.’ I’m like, ‘What now?’ And they go, ‘He’s not loving the blood.’”

Jordan quickly clarified, “I wasn’t complaining. I was just venting. There’s a difference, right? But they care, so they talked about it. I appreciated that.”

The actor, known for avoiding horror films in the past, said Michael B. Jordan Sinners helped him gain a new appreciation for the genre. “I figured if I saw how it’s made and actually starred in one, I might start liking them more. And I do — I really do.”

His co-stars, Hailee Steinfeld and Wunmi Mosaku, who each play romantic interests to his dual characters, echoed his blood-related discomfort. “The special effects team had us wired up, blood pumping everywhere. It was a lot,” said Mosaku, 38. Steinfeld, 28, added, “No one warned us how sticky it would be. Our fingers were constantly stuck together, and makeup had to spray water to peel us apart.”

Filming in the sweltering Louisiana heat in spring 2024 didn’t help. “Michael doesn’t complain,” Mosaku noted. “He’d sit still in those thick, hot suits and just say, ‘We can’t change it, so let’s push through.’” She laughed, then added, “Well, except the bugs. We all complained about the bugs.”

Despite the challenges, the team poured passion into the film — and a lot of fake blood — to make Michael B. Jordan Sinners a gritty, unforgettable vampire tale.
