NYPD Dog Rescue East River Saves Pup in Distress
A heartwarming rescue took place on Sunday, March 30, when the NYPD successfully saved a dog found in the East River near South Street Seaport. The call came in around 8:10 a.m., reporting a dog struggling in the water. The NYPD Special Operations Division’s Harbor Unit swiftly responded to the scene and pulled the dog to safety.

After the rescue, the dog, still wet from head to toe, was wrapped in a warm blanket and taken to Pier 16. Thankfully, the pup did not show any signs of injury. Officers transported her to Animal Care Centers of NYC, where she was cared for by staff. Despite being soaked, the dog, who wore a hot pink harness, showed no distress and patiently waited in the officers’ arms.

The dog, now affectionately named “Hudson,” is a 1- or 2-year-old Maltese. She is in good health and has been described as friendly and well-behaved around both people and other dogs. However, no one has come forward to claim her yet. Hudson remains in the care of Animal Care Centers of NYC, and staff hope her rightful owner will soon be reunited with their furry companion.
