Nearly three decades after starring in Selena, Jennifer Lopez, 55, and Edward James Olmos, 78, are back on screen together in Office Romance Netflix Movie!
On Thursday, March 27, Lopez shared the exciting news on Instagram, revealing Olmos has joined her in Netflix’s upcoming romantic comedy.
“From Selena to now, this journey has truly come full circle,” Lopez captioned a heartfelt Instagram post. “We’re beyond thrilled to welcome the legendary Edward James Olmos to Office Romance Netflix Movie!”
The post, a joint announcement by Lopez, Netflix Latinoamérica, and Netflix in Spanglish, featured a nostalgic collection of then-and-now images—first from Selena, then from their latest film.
Lopez’s breakout role came in the 1997 biopic Selena, where she portrayed the beloved Tejano music icon, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez. Tragically, Selena’s life was cut short in 1995 when she was fatally shot by Yolanda Saldívar, the former head of her fan club and boutique manager. In an ironic twist of fate, Saldívar was denied parole on the same day Lopez announced her new film.
Olmos played Selena’s father, Abraham Quintanilla, in the critically acclaimed film. Reflecting on the role’s significance on the movie’s 25th anniversary in 2022, Lopez shared, “This film holds a special place in my heart… Selena and her family mean so much to me, and I feel honored to have been chosen to bring her story to life.”
