The Trump administration deportations have been controversial, with many legal immigrants being sent back to dangerous situations without valid reasoning. Recently, a heartbreaking case involving a gay makeup artist, Andry Hernandez Romero, has brought this issue to light. Andry fled Venezuela seeking asylum in the United States, only to find himself facing a nightmare he never expected.

Trump Administration Deportations to El Salvador’s CECOT Prison
Andry’s deportation is one of the latest in a series of cases where individuals seeking safety have been wrongly targeted. Despite having no criminal history, Andry was deported to El Salvador’s notorious Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), a maximum-security facility where human rights abuses are alleged to be rampant. Built in 2022 as part of a large-scale crackdown on gang violence, CECOT is now the final destination for many migrants, including those wrongfully accused.
According to Andry’s lawyer, Lindsay Toczylowski, the deportation process was shockingly opaque. “Our client, who was in the middle of seeking asylum, just disappeared,” she explained in an interview on CBS News’ 60 Minutes. She further clarified that Andry’s claims for asylum had been deemed credible by the government, indicating that his life was at risk in Venezuela due to his sexual orientation.

Trump Administration Deportations and the Alleged Evidence
The Trump administration claims that Andry was linked to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, citing tattoos of a crown as proof of gang affiliation. However, his lawyer asserts that these tattoos, which include the names of his parents, are symbols of love and family. Toczylowski emphasized that this was no evidence of criminal activity, and the deportation was based on a false narrative.
In a disturbing turn, Andry was detained by ICE agents, who arrived with no warning and transported him to El Salvador under questionable circumstances. His subsequent treatment in CECOT, where he was humiliated, threatened, and subjected to harsh conditions, has raised serious concerns about the safety of migrants under the current administration’s policies.
